Deb Davis and five and a half year-old Golden Retriever Schooner have been American Idogs team members for almost five years now. Deb had owned a Golden Retriever earlier on, and loved how gentle and intelligent they are. She wanted another dog with such a sweet spirit, which is why she ended up getting Schooner. Also, when Deb was younger she had a miniature Poodle, which she claims didn%u2019t act like a Poodle; it was instead %u201Ca dog in Poodle%u2019s clothing%u201D. Deb loves to take Schooner hiking in the woods and swimming on the beach for fun. She has taught Schooner many tricks such as %u201Cplay dead%u201D, but their most famous performance is the mailbox trick. Deb taught Schooner to walk up to the mailbox, open it, take out the mail, and bring it back to her. But, he doesn%u2019t stop there! Schooner even goes back to the mailbox to close it like a good dog. One time, and only one time, Deb decided to have Schooner compete in the Beginners%u2019 World Canine Freestyle Organization national event in Orlando. It was their first time doing anything like this, and they took first place. It took a lot of patience and training in order for Deb to teach Schooner what he knows, and she emphasized patience is very important when working with him. Deb enjoys sharing the company of the other owners and dogs as a part of the American Idogs team, while learning at the same time. In addition, she is a former coach and realizes the value of the teamwork involved in American Idogs
